Powertrain

2.5i models are powered by Subaru's 170-hp SUBARU BOXER® engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional Lineartronic® CVT automatic transmission.  Either combination allows for fuel efficiency up to 31 highway mpg and 23 city mpg.

The Legacy 2.5GT Limited runs on a 265-hp 2.5L 4-cylinder engine and is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission only.  The 3.6R, 3.6R Premium, and 3.6R Limited trim levels run on a 256-hp 3.6L 6-cylinder engine and are all paired with the Lineartronic® CVT automatic transmission.  Each of these trim levels achieves 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Safety

In the government's new, more strenuous crash testing for 2011, the 2011 Subaru Legacy earned an overall rating of four stars out of a possible five, with four stars for overall frontal crash protection and four stars for overall side crash protection.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also gave the 2011 Subaru Legacy its perfect score of "Good" in the frontal-offset, side and roof strength tests.

Every 2011 Subaru Legacy in Long Island comes standard with stability and traction control, antilock disc brakes, front side airbags and side curtain airbags. In brake testing, the 2.5i came to a stop from 60 mph in a good distance of 121 feet.

The equipped anti-lock braking system helps drivers stop in a flash while electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist help to slow the vehicle down, keeping all occupants safe in the event of an impending collision.  Vehicle Dynamics Control helps keep the vehicle on its intended path and the Traction Control System applies braking force and reduces engine torque to maintain vehicle motion.

Other safety features include dual-stage deployment airbags, height-adjustable head restraint, height-adjustable 3-point front seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters, rear child-safety door locks, the LATCH system and more.
